Streszczenie

Orexigenic and anorexigenic peptides are believed to play a role in the development of anorexia nervosa (AN). The aim of the study was to examine the correlation between the concentrations of orexins A & B (OXA and OXB) and ghrelin (GRE) in plasma and the Body Mass Index (BMI) in anorexia nervosa patients. Our studied group consisted of 25 girls suffering from AN, while the reference group consisted of 20 healthy girls. In each of the participants, concentrations of OXA, OXB, GRE and glucose in plasma were checked once. In the AN patients, out of the three orexigenic peptides we studied (OXA, OXB and GRE) – concentrations of only two of them – OXA and GRE – changed significantly in the acute phase of the disease. OXA concentration in AN patients’ plasma was statistically significantly lower, while the concentration of GRE – statistically significantly higher than in the reference group. At the same time, we noted a statistically significant positive correlation between the OXA concentration and the BMI value as well as a statistically significant negative correlation between the GRE concentration and BMI.
