Streszczenie

Cognitive training and the positive transfer phenomenon have raised considerable interest among cognitive and developmental psychologists over the recent years. Apparently, even short-term cognitive training leads to the improvement in functioning of the practiced process. Moreover, this kind of training has a considerable influence on cognitive processes that have not been stimulated. On the one hand, researches are looking for the most effective training methods that improve the long-term effect, while on the other, they are wondering about the practical implications. Cognitive interventions are carefully examined for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This article presents an overview of studies on attention training for this clinical group. The primary aim of the review is to analyse the effectiveness of various types of attention training and the range of the effect transfer to untrained cognitive functions. The presented reports show that attention training reduces inattention symptoms, impulsivity and hyperactivity among children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Those effects have been confirmed by the results of diagnostic tests, EEG, and parents’ opinions. Significant improvements in the efficiency of various attention functions and other cognitive processes (including working memory and even fluid intelligence) have been observed. These results have proved the potential of attention training for reducing the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder among the affected children, encouraging further research in this area.
