Streszczenie

In this study the author referred to the complete mental health model by Keyes and Lopez. In this model quality different forms of psychical health are distinguished. They are based on such dimensions as psychopathology (which indicator is higher level of anxiety) and well-being (life satisfaction). The author also concentrates on coping with stress. The aim of this study is to show the relation between quality different forms of mental health and the type of coping with stress. The author investigated English and Polish philology students of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. They were 22-42 years old. Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Coping Orientations to Problems Experienced (COPE) were used in this study. The results indicates that it is possible to distinguish groups of people with different forms of mental health. There are two groups with two main forms of mental health: “prosperous” and “fearful” people. In the group of “fearful” people there is correlation between factors that decide about the form of mental health (life satisfaction and the level of anxiety) and the ways of coping with stress. In the group of “prosperous” people factors that decide about mental health are not connected with the ways of coping.
